That’s me, I’m April, and when I married my husband in the summer of 2015 I had already been planning events & weddings for a few years. I knew the best vendors & had relationships with them, I knew how to organize and coordinate, I made lists and I made my own day-of timeline. I thought that doing it all myself was a great plan and I was sure I didn’t need any help.
Cut to our big day:
I am getting my hair curled and my make-up applied all while trying to direct my bridesmaids on final set-up details.
“The butter needs to be melted!” (popcorn bar)
“Sangria needs taken down to the bartenders.”
“Where are the groomsmen?”
“Have the sodas been taken down to the bar?”
“Do we have the rings?”
I was a bit stressed, to say the least. I had completely taken for granted that I was responsible for executing all of the pieces of the wedding that I had painstakingly planned. I had cast myself in too many roles: leading actress, writer, director, set-decorator, & clean-up crew. Yikes.
So armed with personal experience and years of events under my belt, I decided to start April Marie Events in the summer of 2016. We plan and execute a wide variety of events like birthday and celebration parties, customer appreciation events, and more, and we specialize in wedding planning.

Meet April. Owner and lead planner at April Marie Events. She started her journey in wedding and event planning in 2014 as a manager and event coordinator for a venue on the Grand Mesa. After years of working for venues, she decided that she wanted to plan events all across western Colorado and eastern Utah, so decided to branch out and start April Marie Events.
She is an optimist at heart, and has a calm demeanor that is always helpful on crazy wedding days. She loves checklists and timelines and flowers and pretty dresses.
Her favorite part of every wedding is the start of the ceremony, after all the bridal party is placed and the couple are at the front, about to exchange their vows. She always cries at weddings, but because she’s so dang happy and a little sappy.
Meet Nikki. Lead planner and April’s right hand gal. She’s been with April Marie Events since it’s initial season. She started as an intern to complete her Bachelor’s Degree at Colorado Mesa University, but stayed on long after graduation. By now, she’s a wedding pro.
She might seem quiet, but she’s always ready with excellent suggestions or solutions to a problem, and to take charge whenever it’s necessary.
She is cool under pressure, and guests love to ask her, “How do you stay so calm?”
Her favorite part of weddings is the first dance. To her, there is something so special about those few minutes when the couple is surrounded by their family and friends, but it’s as if they only see each other.
Meet Robbie. Assistant planner and the muscle behind some of the more elaborate weddings and events. He has worked alongside April (his wife!), for years and is an excellent member of the team. Robbie is always ready to tackle tricky logistics and set-up details, and his height is certainly a competitive advantage.
Robbie works weddings from multiple angles, sometimes with the April Marie Events team, sometimes as a second shooter for a photographer, and sometimes shooting wedding videos for his business, Robbie Arnold Media. This gives him a unique perspective that helps design and timing decisions.
His favorite part of weddings is the music and food. Sharing a good meal and good music with family & friends is the key to a good night.
