You’ve planned for months and months, asked your wedding party to stand by your side for the big day, picked out colors and linens and flowers and said yes to the dress. The wedding day came and every moment was perfect. You get back home from your honeymoon, sit on the couch surrounded by cards and wrapping paper you didn’t bother to clean before you left, and suddenly you feel sad. Maybe even a little empty. Don’t worry!! These feelings are totally normal, and you can get through them. Here are our top tips for how to beat the post-wedding blues.
Give Yourself Space
First, it’s important to give yourself some space. Take time off after the wedding, too! If you’re going on your honeymoon right after the big day, make sure you have some time when you get back to unwind before diving right back into work. Sure, being busy might sound enticing when you’re feeling the blues, but your body will thank you for a bit of rest right now.
Talk it Out
Like we said, the post-wedding blues are a totally normal thing! It’s an important part of the grieving process to feel your feelings. If you have any friends who’ve gotten married recently, talk to them about how you’re feeling and you’ll see just how common it is. Maybe they have some suggestions of their own for how to cope! You also have a new spouse who is always there to listen too! Don’t be afraid to talk to your loved ones about how you’re feeling and reach out for their support.
You just spent a year of your life focused around one event. It’s normal to feel a little empty after that! Make a point to find connections within your community after the big day. Join a barre class, get some girls together for a wine and paint night, connect with a local hiking or running group for you and your partner to join. Finding something to put some of the energy into that you used to spend wedding planning can help so much! If it’s something the two of you can do together that’s even better.
Look to the Future
You’re MARRIED now! If you’re really feeling the post-wedding blues, look to the future. You’re building a whole adventure together, and your wedding day was just the start! What trips do you want to take or concerts do you want to see? Are you going to start saving for a new home or planning for a new family member? Finding new goals to be excited about together will help alleviate the emptiness you’re feeling after the big day is over.
